We are a network of Jesuits spread across South Asia with an aim to quality education to the children and make them future leaders and nation builders. Since our inception education has been the most important apostolate, in South Asia only we are running more than 450 schools. This network of schools comes under a single umbrella-Jesuit Educational Association of South Asia (JEA SA).
Our history goes back to 1540. At the age of 30, Inigo Lopez de Loyola, a Spanish nobleman, had his leg shattered by a cannon ball at the Battle of Pamplona in 1521. During his convalescence in the castle of Loyola, Inigo was initially disappointed to find that there were only two books in the house-The Life of Christ and The Lives of the Saints. He read these books to pass the time, but gradually his mind was turned towards the things of God and away from his romantic fantasies.Mesmerized by the charism of God, he along with his nine other companions formed an order and named it Society of Jesus.
Today, there are more than 18,000 men in the society and arespread across 125 countries in the world. In South Asia we are serving the humanity in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
